Editor's notes

Aruba: valid for the stay, with a few practical catches

Aruba does not usually ask ordinary holidaymakers for six months beyond entry. Your passport needs to remain valid for the whole stay, and you may be asked for proof of accommodation, return travel and enough funds for the trip. The passport date is only one part of the document check.

The most common complication is routing. Many Aruba itineraries connect through the United States or the Netherlands, and those legs bring their own document checks. Even if Aruba accepts your passport, an expired ESTA, a passport too close to expiry for a connecting country, or a mismatch in names can stop the journey earlier.

If your passport expires soon after the planned return date, renew before booking anything expensive or non-refundable. Aruba may be flexible on the six-month point, but airlines are not flexible when their system returns a document warning.

Frequently asked questions

Does Aruba have the 6-month passport rule?
No formal 6-month rule — Aruba requires your passport to be valid for your entire stay. Some US-based airlines apply a 6-month buffer at check-in, so leave yourself headroom.
Do I need to complete the Aruba ED Card?
Yes. All visitors must fill in the Embarkation/Disembarkation Card online within 7 days of arrival. It's free on the official Aruba government site.
How long can I stay in Aruba on a tourist visa?
US, UK, EU and Canadian citizens get up to 30 days on arrival, extendable to 180 days per calendar year.
Fastest way to renew a passport before flying to Aruba?
UK: Online Premium for same-day collection. US: 14-day urgent agency appointment with travel proof; expedited mail-in 2–3 weeks.
What if my passport has 4 months left when I fly to Aruba?
Aruba will likely admit you, but check with your airline first — some US carriers will refuse boarding under their own 6-month policy regardless of Aruba's rule.
