Passport 6 Month RulePassport 6 Month Rule

Editorial policy

Last updated: 25 June 2026

Passport 6 Month Rule exists to help travellers avoid being denied boarding because of passport-validity rules. The guidance here is editorial — written by humans, fact-checked against primary sources, and updated when the rules change.

Our sources

Every country page is cross-checked against at least two of:

  • The destination government's own immigration / border-control site.
  • UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office travel advice (gov.uk).
  • US State Department country information (travel.state.gov).
  • IATA Timatic, where airlines publicly cite it.
  • The destination embassy or high commission in the UK / US.

How we fact-check

New pages are written from the primary sources above, then reviewed before publication. Existing pages are audited at least every 6 months and immediately when a rule change is announced (for example, an EU Schengen update or a country reopening visa-on-arrival).

Corrections

If a rule on this site is wrong or out of date, email contact@davidmansion.com with the page URL and the official source. Verified corrections are made within 48 hours. The "Last updated" date at the top of each guide reflects the most recent edit.

Independence

We're independent and reader-funded. No country, government, airline or travel brand pays for placement or for what we say about it. Where we recommend a renewal route or supplier, that recommendation reflects what we'd choose ourselves.

Advertising & affiliate disclosure

We make money in two ways:

  • Display ads via Google AdSense. Ads are clearly labelled and never embedded inside the advice itself.
  • Affiliate links to a small number of travel services (visa providers, travel insurance, flight comparison). If you buy after clicking, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links are marked with rel="sponsored", and we only link to services we'd happily use ourselves.

Affiliate revenue never influences which countries we cover or which rules we report.

Use of AI

We use AI tools to help with drafting and formatting, but every page is reviewed, fact-checked and signed off by a human editor against the primary sources above. We don't publish automatically generated content.

Not legal advice

Information here is for guidance only and isn't legal or immigration advice. Rules can change at short notice — always confirm with the destination's official border-control site and your airline before you travel.
