- Do I need 6 months on my passport for Germany?
- No — Germany uses the Schengen rules: at least 3 months of validity beyond your intended departure, and your passport must have been issued in the last 10 years.
- What's the 10-year rule about?
- Some older UK passports were issued with extra months on top of 10 years. Those extra months do not count when entering Germany or anywhere else in Schengen.
- Does Germany enforce the rule strictly?
- Yes — German border police (Bundespolizei) are well known for enforcing both the 3-month and 10-year rules at Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin airports.
- What if I'm only transiting through Frankfurt?
- If you stay airside on an international transit you may avoid full immigration checks, but airlines still check passport validity against the destination's rules at boarding.
