Brazil: strict six-month rule, new eVisa for four nationalities

Brazil is one of the strictest six-month countries in the Americas. Immigration at Guarulhos, Galeão and Salvador counts six months from your date of entry, and airlines apply the same rule via Timatic. There's no discretion for short stays or connections onward to Argentina or Uruguay — the check happens on arrival in Brazil.

From April 2025, US, Canadian and Australian visitors need a Brazilian eVisa applied for online in advance. UK, EU and NZ travellers still enter visa-free for 90 days. The eVisa costs around $80 and takes up to five business days to issue — don't leave it to the last week before travel.

Yellow fever vaccination is not a border requirement but is heavily recommended for travel to the Amazon, Pantanal or Iguaçu. Some onward destinations (including a few Caribbean islands) require proof of yellow fever vaccination if you've been in Brazil in the previous six days, so keep your certificate with your passport.
